2021 Budget – 3rd March

Chancellor Rishi Sunak delivered the UK 2021 Budget in Parliament setting out tax and spending plans with measures to support businesses and jobs/

livelihoods through the current pandemic – within 3 core topics:

  • supporting the British people and businesses through this moment of crisis;
  • once on the way to recovery, beginning to fix the public finances;
  • and starting the work of building the future UK economy

Support for businesses who are paying SSP to employees

Jun 04 2020
  • ONLY applicable to a business with fewer than 250 employees (as at 28 Feb 2020).
  • This is still SSP - and therefore subject to all the usual rules, such as a maximum of 28 weeks’ pay, except that:
  1. There is no PIW to apply (so pay can start from the first day of sickness); and
  2. The employer can reclaim (via the online service at GOV.UK) up to 2 weeks of SSP per relevant employee.

Note:those two exceptions ONLY apply if the ‘sickness’ is Covid-19 related (although this can be due to isolation not just confirmed infection).

Corona Virus Job Retention Scheme

Jun 04 2020
The scheme is being extended to run until 31st October (instead of ending on 30th June), there is a new key caveat – namely that an employee can only be furloughed on/after 1st July IF already furloughed prior to 30th June. In practice this means that the ‘closing date’ for putting a previously unfurloughed worker onto furlough is 10th June (so that a minimum period of 3 weeks has been completed before 1st July)!

Congratulations to Newham College

AE Pension Contributions Increase

The minimum contributions you and your staff pay into your automatic enrolment workplace pension scheme will increase from 6 April 2019. The minimum employers have to contribute into their staff’s pensions goes up from 2% to 3% of qualifying earnings with staff’s minimum contributions going up from 3% to 5% at the same time. It is your responsibility to make sure these increases are implemented.

Congratulations to Hudderfield New College

Jan 25 2019
Huddersfield New College has been named the number one organisation in the UK for Equality and Diversity – for the third year running! HNC received the award at the National Centre for Diversity (NCFD) awards ceremony last night. The evening was a double celebration as HNC was also named as the Further Education Provider of the Year.

How SfP are preparing for GDPR

Feb 09 2018
In May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) will come into force across the UK.

Software for People’s (SfP) clients (Controllers) are ultimately responsible for the implementation of GDPR within their own organisations and by extension have a legislative responsibility to ensure that third parties who process data on their behalf (Processors) are also compliant with the regulations.
