2021 Budget – 3rd March

Chancellor Rishi Sunak delivered the UK 2021 Budget in Parliament setting out tax and spending plans with measures to support businesses and jobs/

livelihoods through the current pandemic – within 3 core topics:

  • supporting the British people and businesses through this moment of crisis;
  • once on the way to recovery, beginning to fix the public finances;
  • and starting the work of building the future UK economy

AE Pension Contributions Increase

The minimum contributions you and your staff pay into your automatic enrolment workplace pension scheme will increase from 6 April 2019. The minimum employers have to contribute into their staff’s pensions goes up from 2% to 3% of qualifying earnings with staff’s minimum contributions going up from 3% to 5% at the same time. It is your responsibility to make sure these increases are implemented.

HMRC issue P9X April 2016 Guide

HMRC have recently issued the 2016 P9X Guide for April 2016. HMRC issue the guide each year giving instruction for employers on the transition procedure for tax codes when moving from one tax year to the next. 

The Scottish Parliament: Power to set rates of income tax from 6 April 2016

From 6 April 2016, the Scottish Parliament will have the power to set its own rate of income tax. In December 2015 the HMRC began to contact customers who their records show live in Scotland, to inform them they have been identified as being a Scottish taxpayer. Individuals receiving these letters are likely to turn to their payroll department for help and advice, therefore all employers need to know the basics about the Scottish Rate of Income Tax.
